As we finish our series on watching this Corvette come down the line, we had mixed emotions about how to show it as a feature. By now, most of you have seen the yellow mockup car on the pages of every magazine (including ours) and every Web site out there. In our April issue, we published the statistics on how the Z06 would be equipped; the only change is the new LS7 engine now produces 505 hp, not the 500 hp we originally reported.
This Corvette was built for further evaluation and was sent to the Milford Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan. It's currently assigned to Dave Wickman, Corvette development manager. After evaluation and further testing, it will be crushed, as all non-saleable cars must be. It would be cool for GM to decide to keep this historic Z06, maybe even work with the National Corvette Museum to put it on display for everyone to see.
While we were unable to test this new Z06, we're grateful to Wil Cooksey and all the staff and assembly line workers at the Bowling Green Assembly plant for making this such a great experience. Everyone treated Jerry and me like royalty, and we had a great time doing what we do best: hanging out with Corvette people and taking photos of awesome cars. We had a blast in Bowling Green and look forward to doing it again sometime soon.
Now, pick up your favorite beverage, find your recliner, kick back, and enjoy looking at this awesome piece of Corvette history. Ain't this the life!.
